About the maker:
After receiving a pipe for his 30th Birthday, Sergey Ailarov became
engrossed in the collection of pipes and the fine art of Pipe smoking.
However, times were not good, and in order to fully enjoy his new hobby Sergey
needed to increase the number of pipes in his rotation. One solution was
to obtain a pre-bored block and produce his own pipes. This was the
beginning of his new profession. Sergey was attracted to to art and
expressing his creativity, and studied to become a Jazz guitar player and
composer in Vladikavkz, Russia, his place of birth. At the age of
25, he decided to leave his home in the beautiful Kavkaz Mountains to move to
Moscow to pursue new opportunities in the fine arts of Painting and Photography
in which he equally held a passion for. With the fortunate
introduction to pipe smoking, Sergey has transformed all of his fine Arts
experiences into what he believes is a very practical and creative form of Art,
Pipe making. Symmetry, quality of grain, and practical engineering are
apparent in his work. For Sergey, producing pipes is an opportunity to
fully express his Artistry in a form that can be enjoyed by all of the senses.
He starts the pipe making process by sketching the shape over and over again
until he has the perfect copy imbedded in his mind. With a clear image of
the shape, he starts to cut the briar into his creation. In each pipe
Sergey completes, he imparts a reflection of himself, and he strives to
continuously improve as a pipe maker and a person.
