C. Martin
Chris Mattioda of C. Martin Pipes is a part-time artisan pipemaker from Enumclaw, Washington. Though he began carving seriously in 2022, his rapid development and precision have quickly set him apart. Each of Chris’s pipes reflects a deep commitment to detail and technical excellence—qualities rooted in his background in mechanics and woodworking.
Chris originally explored creative craftsmanship in high school woodshop in the ninth grade. Years later he made his first pipe before ever smoking one. After finishing a custom car build with his twin brother at the age of 20, he began seeking a similarly rewarding hobby. A brief stint making pens led him to discover handmade pipes through a YouTube video—and he was immediately captivated by the blend of shape, function, and fine craftsmanship.
Largely self-taught, Chris honed his skills through online resources and has since developed a style grounded in classic forms, occasionally venturing into unique freehand expressions. With extremely limited annual production, each pipe is shaped with purpose, precision, and a desire to bring out the best in every block of briar.
Chris works out of a small shop during spare moments away from his tight-knit family, and his work is typically available only at select pipe shows. Under the name C. Martin Pipes, he continues to grow as a standout name among new-generation artisan pipemakers.
